MARTA BIELSKA: THE LAINES

Part of Brighton (UK), once a slum area, nowadays cultural and eccentric part of town. It's a mix of unusual, often unique and eclectic climates. It's place full of small and mysterious lanes, pubs and cafés filled with a bohemian atmosphere. The Laines attract artists, writers, people with an uncommon attitude to life, outsiders, eccentrics.

The presented works are only part of the photographic series, which I've started in 2008 and continues to this day. It shows portraits of strangers I met on the streets in the titled part of Brighton.

The main aim was observation and documentation of the human as well as to create an atmosphere in which the photographed model will be authentic and natural, showing only what they wanted to say about themselves, and only as much of their personality as they wanted to express. Most of my subjects looked straight into the camera, disclosing sincerity and an essence of themselves, social status and psychological nature. It was also a commemoration of this, what is passing such as time, place and people with their characteristic features.

Część Brighton (w Anglii), kiedyś dzielnica slumsów, obecnie kulturalna i ekscentryczna część miasta. To mix niezwykłych, często unikatowych i eklektycznych klimatów. Miejsce pełne wąskich i tajemniczych uliczek, pubów i kafejek przepełnionych atmosferą bohemy. The Laines ściąga do siebie artystów, pisarzy, ludzi o nietuzinkowym podejściu do życia, outsiderów, ekscentryków.

Prezentowane prace to tylko fragment cyklu fotograficznego, który zaczęłam w 2008r i kontynuuje do dzisiaj. Przedstawia portrety ludzi, których spotkałam na ulicach w tytułowej części Brighton.

Główny cel jaki sobie postawiłam była obserwacja i rejestracja człowieka, jak również stworzenie atmosfery, w której fotografowany model byłby autentyczny i naturalny, pokazujący tylko tyle, ile sam chce o sobie powiedzieć i tylko tyle, na ile chce wyrazić swoją osobowość. Większość fotografowanych patrzy na wprost do kamery, ujawniając szczerość i esencje ich samych, społeczny status i psychologiczny wyraz. Jest to również upamiętnienie tego, co przemijające, jak czas, miejsce i ludzie z charakterystycznymi dla nich cechami.
